永安溼地是台南以南最大的一片溼地，1999年這片溼地被國際鳥盟( BirdLife International) 列為重要野鳥棲地 (Important Bird Area,IBA)，2007年被內政部營建署指定為國家重要濕地。除了自然資源之外，該濕地過去作為鹽田地區，深具歷史價值。
永安鹽田舊名為鹽田寮，因颱風侵襲導致鹽場毀壞，後轉讓給高雄陳中和成立烏樹林製鹽公司。現今鹽田中殘存之巴洛克式辦公室，係當時興建之建築，迄今已有90多年歷史。2008年由高雄縣政府指定為縣定古蹟，鹽灘的結晶池為瓦盤式，以破陶破瓦片鋪設而成，充分表現製鹽文化的歷史價值。
烏樹林鹽場改稱為高雄鹽場後，因台電在此設置興達火力發電廠，由於煤灰污染嚴重，鹽的品質低落，已無法曬鹽。1986年台電向台鹽購買永安鹽田，想作為興達電廠煤炭堆置地。在當地人士及環保人士的出面阻止下，終於獲得當時高雄縣政府的支持，於1996年改設立為永安紅樹林自然公園。但永安鹽田現仍屬台電所有之土地，未來如何仍不可知。

The Yong-an Wetlands are the largest wetlands south of Tainan, and in 1999 achieved recognition by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area (IBA). In 2007, the Construction and Planning Agency of the Ministry of the Interior designated the site as an important national wetland. Aside from the natural assets of the wetlands, the site is also of historical interest due to the salt extraction that took place here.
The Yong-an Salt Field used to be known as Yong-an Tianliao. However, the saltworks were damaged by a typhoon, and the site was sold to local businessman Chen Jhong-he, who set up the Wushulin Salt Company. Remains of a baroque-style office built more than ninety years ago can be found at the site. In 2008, the building was recognized as a county historic site by the Kaohsiung County government. The salt crystallizing pond, which is made from tiles, is also of historical interest. The Wushulin Salt Field was renamed the Kaohsiung Salt Field, but salt production ended due to pollution caused by the Singda Power Plant built nearby. In 1986, Taipower purchased the Yong-an Salt Pan from the Taiyen (Taiwan Salt) Company, hoping to use it to store coal for the power plant. However, opposition from local residents and environmental activists eventually won the support of the Kaohsiung County Government. In 1996, the site was designated as the Yong-an Mangrove Nature Park. Despite this, its future remains uncertain as the land still belongs to Taipower.
